BOHLIN CYWINSKI JACKSON

STEEL CURTAIN WALL

A few steps from the ocean, on the charming coastal island of Long Island, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson has designed an elegant private residence that boasts a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape. The house has a two-story structure in wood, steel and glass, a peaceful refuge among the fields, with the sound of the waves as a background. The glazed facades in aisi 316 satin stainless steel made to design are characterized by the sliding windows with extremely thin profiles. It is precisely the windows that determine the overall architecture of the building in a relationship of constant exchange and permeability to natural light thanks also to the skylights characterized by a peculiar motorized cantilevered opening. The facades and skylights have been subjected to severe laboratory tests as usual to withstand the push of the winds, the wear of time and the most critical atmospheric conditions. The large transparencies of the volumes ensure environments full of light and airy, in which dialogue with the external landscape and nature is constant. A palette of natural materials has been chosen for the outdoor spaces: over the years they will reflect the signs of aging, in growing harmony with the surrounding landscape.
